Fiennes, Weisz set up charity

Published Monday, Aug 1 2005, 08:25 BST | By Daniel Saney
Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz have set up a trust fund to combat African poverty.

Whilst filming upcoming movie The Constant Gardener in Kenya they and the rest of the cast and crew were so touched by the locals' plight that they set up The Constant Gardener Trust to aid the towns that feature in the film.

To date, the fund has provided a new bridge, road building and schooling costs in east Kenya.

The film's producer Simon Channing-Williams is quoted by IMDb.com as saying: "These are places were people are seriously, seriously poor and deprived, and water is at a dreadful premium. A lot of people on the film were astounded by what they saw and wanted to do something."
