Reilly admitted that despite earning the majority of his success in film, he prefers being on the stage.
In an interview with Movie Retriever, the 45-year-old said: "Doing theatre is a really empowering thing for an actor. Film, as much as I love it, is a director's medium. It's not an actor's medium. You provide the raw materials and then the director turns it into something. Theatre is just you and the audience.
"There's a rehearsal process where the director has an influence but then they go away. I really love it. I think actually, despite the fact that I've made my career and money making movies, I'm more suited to being a theatre actor."
Earlier this week, Reilly revealed that co-star Jennifer Aniston felt uneasy during the filming of their sex scene in The Good Girl.
