Heroes star Adrian Pasdar has avoided jail by pleading no contest to a misdemeanour charge of driving under the influence.

The 44-year-old actor, who plays Nathan Petrelli in the hit show, was arrested in January after Los Angeles Police caught him swerving at high speeds across a freeway.

According to TMZ, Pasdar has been sentenced to 36 months probation and ordered to pay a $395 (£264) fine.

He will also need to attend an alcohol education programme and ten Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

A second charge against Pasdar, for refusing to submit to a blood alcohol test, was dropped by prosecutors.
