According to Radar Online, the tattoo artist who inked the design has revealed that Ross was behind the Korean dragon artwork, which symbolises rebirth and change.
"It was done over two sessions of around six and seven hours each. Jon had a very good threshold for pain," said Todd 'Sharkbait' Williams.
"Despite what people may think of him, I found him to be a really friendly guy. He was always talking about his kids and where he has travelled to around the world - he was a very good client."
Williams - who went to school with Ross - went on to say: "Jon's design is a one-off. There will not be anyone else walking around with it on their body."
He added that Ross - who began dating Gosselin earlier this year - is a "good person" and "genuinely likes" the former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star.
It was previously reported that Gosselin's tattoo includes a name written in Korean that apparently pays tribute to 23-year-old Ross.
