DS Icon: Rolf Harris
Published Friday, Jul 2 2010, 16:02 BST | By Alex Fletcher
One of the key ingredients of any DS Icon is being multi-talented and having the ability to turn your hand to pretty much anything. Nobody epitomises this jack-of-all-trades skill better than Rolf Harris. One minute he's brandishing his didgeridoo and wiggling his wobble board around the fields of Glastonbury, the next he's painting a portrait of the Queen and drinking tea at Buckingham Palace. A popstar, a cartoonist, a children's TV star, an animal lover and a general good egg - Rolf's talents know no bounds.
Everyone will have their own feelings about Rolf's greatest talent. Some will argue that his pop smashes 'Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport', 'Jake The Peg' and 'Two Little Boys' mean that he should be rated alongside The Beatles, the Pistols and Elvis as one of the all-time greats. Others will remember fondly his Cartoon Club, which inspired millions of Crayola-wielding youngsters to believe that they could be the next Monet with a few Bugs Bunny drawings. While for some (soppy sorts) the sight of tearful Rolf cradling a poor old puppy on its last legs on Animal Hospital remains permanently fixed to their memory banks as the saddest and most moving TV moment of all time. But whatever your memories of Rolf, one things is for certain, he is most definitely a legend, a great sport and a top icon.
