The Men In Black director admits that when he was 17, his mother asked a concert employee to call his name during the guitar legend's performance so that she could check up on him.
According to Contactmusic, he said: "I was very overprotected by my mother. April 22, 1969... At 2.20 in the morning. I was 17 years old. Hendrix is warming up... 19,600 people.
"And over the PA system, [I hear] 'Barry Sonnenfeld, call your mother!'"
In April, Sonnenfeld confirmed that Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones would be involved in the third instalment of Men In Black.
