Johnny Depp has turned down an offer worth £5 million in favour of playing a gig with his favourite band, Babybird, according to sources.

The Sweeney Todd actor rejected the lucrative opportunity to star in a Japanese soft drink commercial, reports the Metro.

Instead, the 47-year-old will perform with Sheffield band Babybird, whose hits include 'You're Gorgeous' and 'Candy Girl'.

"Johnny is desperate to play with them," an insider said. "When you’re earning the amount he does, more money isn’t important. It’s doing what you love that counts, and he’s not missing out on this opportunity."

Depp previously appeared on the band's last single, 'Unloveable', and directed its music video.
