Williams acted as primary carer for his mother Sonia, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis when he was a teenager, and also worked with youngsters suffering with disabilities.
The 'The Club Is Alive' singers spent time in the Nordoff Robbins centre in North London.
JB told the Daily Star: "It’s important not to create distance and to treat those children as if they didn’t have special needs.
"It can be difficult to do as some of the cases I’ve seen are very distressing. It's a very demanding job. I tell Oritsé all the time how impressed I am that he was a carer."
Oritsé admitted that leaving his work to enter the X Factor had been difficult.
"I wanted to do a job that was fulfilling and rewarding. Some of the kids were not easy. They’d have a fit or be aggressive," he said. "But I promised the parents I’d never give up. I was determined to help them. I’d sit with them and help them be educated.
"One of the hardest things about JLS going into The X Factor was I didn’t want to come out of their lives. But I’ve kept in touch with many of them and their parents and send them JLS merchandise. Their parents tell me about them enjoying watching me on TV."
JB added: "Having a No.1 single or sell-out tour doesn’t compare to making these children smile. That is priceless."
