The teenage actor - who plays the title character in the action movie - told Live From Studio Five that he stays grounded in his normal life.
"When I'm back at home it's just reality," he explained. "I kind of separate myself from Hollywood. The weird BS and the attention and all that. When you're back home it's just real life."
He went on to describe himself as "adaptable" and able to distinguish between his working and private lives, saying: "You keep it about your love for movies and it's a pretty smooth ride. Nothing too crazy."
Lerman, 18, also revealed that director Chris Columbus was an influencing factor in his decision to sign on for Percy Jackson, saying that he is a big fan of the filmmaker's work.
Percy Jackson And The Lightning Thief is available on DVD now.
