Paul Gascoigne has revealed that he was robbed as lay injured following his car crash last month.

The former England footballing legend told OK that the smash had left him with eight broken ribs, a punctured lung and resulted in him almost losing an eye.

He also claimed that the gold chain from around his neck was stolen moments after the incident.

"The worst thing is someone stole my necklace as I lay injured,” he said.

Gascoigne went on to say that he suffered his injuries saving the life of another passenger.

"I went out to the pub. I got a lift with a woman and the car crashed. I was in the back and I jumped across to stop the lad next to me going through the windscreen," he said. "I saved his life and ended up coming off worse."

The 43-year-old's friend Debbie Charlton was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

"One drink is too many and 50 is never enough. I didn’t have a drink for five months and then I had three or four blips," Gascoigne said. "If I want a pint I will have a pint. I don’t even like alcohol now. I only do it now to numb the feelings."
