Mick Hucknall attacked on stage

Published Thursday, Sep 1 2005, 11:55 BST | By Daniel Saney
Mick Hucknall's show in Cuba came to an undignified end when a man leapt on stage and attacked him.

The Sun reports that Mick was nearing the end of his set when the man lunged at him and attempted to punch him. In retaliation, the Simply Red singer proceeded to push his assailant into the orchestra pit.

Deciding that his work was done, he then announced: "Thank you, good night. That is the end of the show."

Hucknall's manager Ian Grenfell told the newspaper: "It was bizarre. What is so worrying is that we don't know what the man's intentions were. He was a Cuban American in his 20s and he stormed the stage and tried to attack Mick.

"Police say the man was stoned but what is unclear is why he took exception to Mick."
