Jolie 'shocked' by New Orleans situation

Angelina Jolie has written to members of the US government urging them to do more for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The Tomb Raider actress issued a statement on Friday stating that she was 'shocked' at footage of the plight of the people of New Orleans, reports BreakingNews.ie.

She said: "It is wonderful to hear of the relief efforts that are finally coming into New Orleans and the rest of the region today, but as we all know, it is simply not going to be enough.

"The federal government's response must be dramatically increased in order to prevent a further loss of life. Like most people, I am simply trying to understand the situation in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama and how I can best help."

Jolie has apparently written to members of Congress and the White House in the hope that they will increase aid efforts.
