Rod Stewart to pay casino $2m

Rod Stewart has been ordered to pay a casino $2m for cancelling a gig.
Las Vegas' Rio Hotel Casino paid the singer the sizeable advance to play there over the New Year weekend of 2000, but he called the date off as he was recovering from throat cancer.
Although Stewart argued that he was within his rights to keep the advance, promising to play another show instead, a jury decided otherwise yesterday and agreed with the casino that another show would not be as lucrative as the cancelled one would have been.
