The 54-year-old has been signed for an eight-week run in the musical playing the part of jailer Mama Morton.
Other stars who have appeared in the London production include Denise Van Outen, Brooke Shields and Jill Halfpenny.
Meanwhile, Carter has voiced her opinions on the casting for Joss Whedon's upcoming Wonder Woman movie, stating that favourites Catherine Zeta-Jones and Sandra Bullock are unsuitable for the role as they are too old.
