The actress felt a pain in her neck while filming a scene that called for an extra to physically shake her, reports Popcrunch.
Perez said that she continued working the scene for two more takes even though she was in pain.
She apparently slipped a bulging disc during the scene.
The 45-year-old appeared at a White House reception honouring her work in the HIV-AIDS community on Wednesday in a neck brace and a wheelchair.
At the event, she told President Barack Obama that she had a bone marrow procedure and surgery on her neck.
