Beth Ditto has said that growing older has made her realise that the "morally strict" punk fashion code can be ignored.

The Gossip frontwoman told the Evening Standard that she is now happy to wear what she likes.

Ditto said of growing up in Arkansas: "Nothing was more morally strict than punk at that point. You had to give up a lot of things.

"Which is the coolest thing about turning 30. You realise that it's all such bulls**t anyway. You can wear frocks if you want to."

Of the style boasted on London streets, she added: "If you're American it's a breath of fresh air.

"You don't realise how acceptable really nice, cheap things are. Even if you have no money, it's really easy to look really nice."
