Cliff Richard vows to stop recording

Sir Cliff Richard has decided that there is little point in making records if nobody is going to be able to listen to them.

Although the veteran singer will continue to tour, he has stated that he will not make any more records on the basis that there seems to be an unofficial boycott against his records on radio stations' playlists.

The situation began in 1998 with Chris Evans' announcement that he would not be playing the singer's material on his breakfast show, an idea which was then taken up by many other broadcasters.

His latest album released last October received no radio play despite being well-received by critics.

The Daily Mail quote the singer as saying: "I just don't have the time to waste making a record that no one will play.

"I will be playing concerts until the day I die because I love the atmosphere - but I'll never make another record."
