Russell Crowe has described himself as a "psychologically-damaged weirdo".
The actor, who was arrested in June after allegedly attacking a hotel worker with a telephone handset, has also admitted that his actions have been "stupid".
"I am obviously a complicated, messy, psychologically damaged weirdo and that is the fundamental requirement for my job," he told Australia's Channel Nine. "It's an unfortunate thing that people don't simply understand that and leave me to my padded cell."
Speaking about his arrest, he added, "It was a stupid thing to do but one doesn't dance alone."
