The 68-year-old actor, who found fame as Han Solo in the original Star Wars trilogy, was led out in the restraints by security guards to promote his upcoming film Cowboys And Aliens, receiving a standing ovation from the 6,000-strong crowd that had gathered.
Clearly moved by the reaction, Ford humbly stated: "I just wanted to make a living as an actor, I didn't know about this."
According to The AP, Ford was joined at the publicity event by co-stars Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde and Sam Rockwell, as well as the film's director Jon Favreau, who explained what he aimed to achieve with the project.
"The take was make a by-the-book Western right down the middle... and mix it with the type of sci-fi movie I grew up with, before they had CG when it was verging on horror," he said. "Then just use CGI to do what they couldn't do back then."
Cowboys And Aliens is due to be released in the US next July.
