It was reported last weekend that the 54-year-old would appear in the upcoming season of Celebrity Rehab for an undisclosed drug problem.
"Eric quit drugs and alcohol in 1995. He has no interest in anything, other than marijuana," Eliza explained to E News.
"He uses marijuana as a medication. He has a prescription. However, a dependency is a dependency and he doesn't want to be dependent on it anymore."
Roberts joins Janice Dickinson, Rachel Uchitel, Jeremy London, Leif Garrett, socialite Jason Davis and Keyshia Cole's mother Frankie Lons on the VH-1 reality series, scheduled to debut later this year.
