Rapper DMX surrendered himself on Monday to begin his 90-day jail sentence.

DMX, real name Earl Simmons, was sentenced for violating his probation from a 2002 conviction for reckless driving, reports E!.

The 39-year-old hip-hop star was transported to a Los Angeles County lockup on Monday.

During his original trial, DMX pleaded no contest to the reckless driving charge. A driving under the influence charge was dropped.

He has been in and out of jails in Arizona and Florida over the past few years for violating probation.

The rapper is expected to serve only part of his 90-day sentence due to jail overcrowding.
