DS Icon: Arthur Bostrom

So, let's clear this up. Arthur Bostrom played the legendary comedy character Officer Crabtree in BBC sitcom 'Allo 'Allo. Now for the confusing part. We had an English actor playing an English agent acting undercover in France. However, he has a poor grasp of French, so often gets his words mixed up in the most unfortunate manner. However, as this is an English TV show, he is speaking in English... but with a French accent. Confusing? Yes. Hilarious comic gold? Without question.
Bostrom may not have the most glorious acting CV we've ever seen, but very few men could have made such an impressive impact with a single one-liner (was it "gid moaning" or "good mooning"?) and a selection of frightfully old-fashioned bits of saucy wordplay ("The British Air Farce have dropped their bums on the water works. They have scored a direct hot on the pimp"). While much of the humour on 'Allo 'Allo has aged badly, there remains a childish charm to The Bostrom's bumbling, double entendre-spewing policeman. For that alone, we salute him.
