Chewbacca takes on third nationality

Peter Mayhew, better known as a Wookiee than a Briton, has now taken on a third identity by becoming an American citizen.

Mayhew was, as his website states, “the actor who brought Chewbacca to life,??? in the original Star Wars films.

He is now 60 and has been living in the US for several years. He has just married a Texan, named Angelique, which prompted him to seek an American passport.

Explaining his decision to naturalize, Mayhew said, "I wanted to become an American because Texas is an integral part of America, its lifestyle.???

He is still proud of his Star Wars role, boasting jokingly, "I'll have a British passport, an American passport and a Wookiee passport."

Mayhew still appears regularly at science fiction conventions in the US and worldwide.
