With a career spanning 35 years, James Taylor is certainly a veteran of the music scene. In recognition of this and also for his work on both children's health and environment issues, the organisers of the Grammy Awards have decided to name him MusiCares Person of the Year.
The US Recording Academy called him "an extraordinary human being, musician and humanitarian," with president Neil Portnow saying he had made a "global impact."
Taylor's association with the Grammys began with his first award in 1971. His most recent nomination was for album October Road in 2003. The honour will be given to Taylor on the 8 February at a gala concert two days previous to the actual Grammy Awards.
