Chelsea Clinton gets married in New York

Chelsea Clinton has married her long-term boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky in a ceremony at the Astor Courts estate in New York.

Chelsea, daughter of former US President Bill Clinton and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, has known investment banker Mezvinsky since they were both teenagers. The event took place on Saturday evening, costing an estimated $2m (£1.3m) to $3m (£1.9m), according to PA.

In a statement released to confirm the wedding, Bill and Hillary Clinton said: "We could not have asked for a more perfect day to celebrate the beginning of their life together, and we are so happy to welcome Marc into our family.

"On behalf of the newlyweds, we want to give special thanks to the people of Rhinebeck for welcoming us and to everyone for their well-wishes on this special day."

A no-fly zone was in place above the Hudson valley and roads near to the venue were closed as guests arrived in limousines, according to the BBC. Local business owners are also said to have been sworn to secrecy about the wedding, while local residents were given bottles of wine to compensate for inconvenience caused by the event.

Guests at the wedding reportedly included Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Barbra Streisand.
