Alec Baldwin and Christie Brinkley have said that they will fight the closing of a local radio station.

The Hamptons-based radio station WLIU, run by parent company Peconic Public Broadcasting, has revealed that it must raise $500,000 by August 31 in order to avoid closure and retain the station's broadcast licence, reports the New York Daily News.

Baldwin, who owns a home in the area, has already donated to WLIU and insisted that he will do what he can to help the station stay on the air.

"Alec looks forward to helping raise funds for WLIU's future," said a rep for the actor.

Brinkley added: "We've got to save that radio station. We can't let our beautiful small town way of life out here get whittled away from us!"
