The world of children's telly can be a cruel and unforgiving one. You can be the big cheese, the next Phillip Schofield/Andi Peters and the saviour of CBBC one minute, and six months later you can be Chris Jarvis and on the panto circuit scrapheap. 50/50, It'll Never Work and occasional Record Breakers hostess Sally Gray was, for a brief period at the end of the '90s, quite a big deal. A cool all-rounder, Gray's stern Scottish demeanor was able to keep 100 unruly scamps in check and simultaneously entertain dads tuning in to watch her bounce around on the 50/50 inflatables.
Gray is the last of a golden generation of female TV presenters - Emma Forbes, Sarah Greene - who could manage to string a sentence together without the closing comment, 'That's amazing!' She may rarely be on our screens these days after turning to the world of lifestyle TV and basically becoming a cheaper version of Carol Smillie, but we'll always keep a place in our hearts for Sally.
