The former Fugees star has expressed his support for the musician's opposition Michel Martelly.
Jean recently announced his run for office in his home country.
Michel wrote on Twitter: "All Haitians around the world it’s going to take all of us to start this reconstruction for Haiti! Michel Martelly for president 2010! It’s official the people are asking for it. I’m here in the belly of Haiti. I endorse Michel Martelly as the next president of Haiti! (sic)"
He added: "Sean Penn understands what’s really going and understand what Haiti really needs."
Actor Penn has already expressed his opposition to Jean's move, calling it "suspicious".
