The actor, who is best known for starring in Slumdog Millionaire, admitted that it doesn't take much for him to show his emotional side.
According to Contact Music, he said: "I'm not superstitious but I am a scaredy-cat in general. The last time I was frightened was when I saw a massive spider in the bathroom. I had to run out in my towel and scream for my dad.
"I cry a lot but the last time was watching Brothers, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire. I was on a plane with so many people walking around, but I couldn't help shedding a tear."
He added: "Nothing makes me physically angry but what does tick me off a little is people being selfish. I don't like that."
Patel stars in The Last Airbender which is released in the UK on August 13.
