The Bored to Death star announced Cunningham's pregnancy on Jimmy Kimmel's chatshow on Wednesday.
"I have this moustache, and the reason I have this moustache is, when I was young, my father had a moustache... growing up, it embarrassed me," the 30-year-old said on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
He added: "I'm expecting a child in December... I decided to grow out this moustache, so when we take photos… my boy or girl, whatever it is... they will be embarrassed. So I am now thinking of ways to embarrass my unborn child."
Schwartzman will next be seen in Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, opening August 13 in US cinemas.
