The Glee actor, who plays Jesse St. James in the Fox musical series, revealed that he gave up plans to become a professional trumpet player upon seeing a production of Annie Get Your Gun while on a school trip in 1995.
"I was sitting in the audience and the intermission came and I couldn't believe there was a second act. I mean, it was too good to be true," he told Vogue.
"From that point on, I was a total theatre geek. I played the trumpet, and I remember my teacher coming over to me and saying, 'Some day you're going to be in that pit playing the trumpet'. And I thought to myself, 'Oh no, no, no - I'll be on the stage'. I just had this instinct that that's how it was going to go down."
Glee creator Ryan Murphy recently announced that Groff will return to the programme in the future.
