Roberta Williams has revealed that her unborn baby was a "gift" from her ex-husband, dead gangland killer Carl Williams.
The 41-year-old Australian, who is now in a relationship with Rob Carpenter and has three other children as well as her 9-year-old daughter Dhakota with Carl, said that the baby would have been conceived the day before Carl was beaten to death in prison.
Roberta told New Idea magazine: "It took a moment to register. I was so excited I couldn’t get off the phone quick enough to tell everyone, and went straight out on a baby shopping spree.
"To me, it was a sign - it's a gift from Carl... it was as if Carl was saying I'm leaving your life, but I'm sending you what you want most so you can begin again and be happy.
"It’s about time something good happened. Carl understood how having another baby meant everything to me. I'm convinced Carl sent us this little gift to say this is a happy start to a sad end.
"And I bet he'll be shining down on me when I go into labour, sending me a healthy baby that will help us get our lives back on track and be happy again."
Carl and Roberta were immortalised as characters in Australian TV drama Underbelly.
