Coleen Nolan has hit out at magazines who criticise women for the way they look.

The Loose Women panellist branded the press "ridiculous" and explained why she had decided to pose nude in a new shoot.

"I don't know about you, but I'm sick of reading magazine articles that attack women over their looks," she wrote in The Mirror.

"Recently, we've had Madonna’s 'old' hands, Catherine Zeta-Jones and her knobbly knees and Victoria Beckham's cold sore. Who's going to be next? Are we going to be having a go at picture perfect Cheryl Cole for having dry skin on her little toe? It's ridiculous."

Nolan admitted that she had given up trying to please anyone because she had been "picked on for being too fat" and then criticised for "going too far" when she lost weight.

"So, to cut to the chase, that's why I decided to pose naked for this week's issue of Best magazine," she said.

"I'm sure some people will give me a hard time for doing it, but I don't care. If we’re serious about ending this sport of criticising every aspect of a woman's looks, we need to come out and be proud of who we are - whatever our shape or size."

She added: "I won't lie to you, I was nervous about my naked shoot - I'm usually not one for getting my kit off! But it felt liberating. And an airbrush hasn't been anywhere near it - it’s me, flaws and all."
