Glitter detention extended for four months

Vietnamese authorities have confirmed their extension of Gary Glitter's detention for another four months.

Glitter, real name Paul Francis Gadd, was arrested after accusations that he had sex with two under-age girls at his home in Vung Tau, says BBC News Online.

The police said that they needed to complete their investigations, and that although the 61-year-old has not yet been charged, they "have enough evidence" to hold the singer for another four months.

Glitter's lawyer, Le Thanh Kinh, says that newspaper reports about the child sex allegations were "just hearsay...there have not been any medical certificates to prove there was child sex abuse and how it was conducted."

Vietnamese law states that a suspect can be held for up to a year before having to press charges. If Glitter is convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 12 years. He has already served time in a UK jail on child pornography charges.
