The rocker met with Medvedev at the president's vacation villa in the Black Sea town of Sochi to discuss various social issues including the singer's campaign to curb the global spread of polio.
According to AFP, footage of the two men having tea on the villa's balcony aired on Russian TV.
Medvedev has previously expressed his love for rock bands Deep Purple and Pink Floyd, causing Bono to joke to reporters that he would cancel the meeting due to the Russian leader's taste in music.
U2 will hold a series of concerts in Russia over the next week for their '360 Degrees' tour, including a performance at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Wednesday.
