Talking with the Wall Street Journal, the Weeds star revealed that her early theatre roles in the city allowed her to launch her career in film.
"I don't know what kind of career I would have had [if I didn't live in New York]. I would be a different person because two of the things that got me the most attention were things that I never thought anyone would come and see," she explained.
"I thought, 'I'm going to do this play in regional theatre called Prelude To A Kiss. And I'm going to do this little play called Proof'. My agent literally laughed at me when I said, 'If it transfers to Broadway, I'm going to have to cancel this other play'."
She added: "I wouldn't have done those things that in a strange way defined me way more and opened up more doors for me than any movie that I did."
