The Aerosmith frontman was mobbed by fans when he arrived at the Trump Plaza hotel in New York City on Tuesday evening, according to TMZ.
The star and a companion at first peaceably made their way through the throng of fans, but violence erupted when his associates engaged in a shoving match with another man.
As a member of the crowd allegedly began to choke Tyler's companion, the singer shouted for the man to "Let him [Tyler's associate] go".
Security quickly intervened to calm down the situation and Tyler and his entourage were led up the front stairs towards the hotel.
Before entering the building, the musician chastised the autograph seekers for hurting his friend, before eventually agreeing to sign some items.
"I'll give you guys what you want," he said.
Tyler was then able to enter the hotel without any further incident.
