According to TMZ, Capitol One Bank claims that Bristol Palin's ex owes it $1,178 (£757) in charges to his Capital One credit card.
The fledgling reality show star, who plans to run for mayor of his Alaskan hometown, allegedly made the charges last year but never paid the bill.
Capitol One's suit is demanding that Johnston pay the total owned plus interest at a rate of 19.90%.
Johnston has yet to comment on the lawsuit.
