Paul Hogan's eldest son Brett has spoken out in his father's defence.

The family of the Crocodile Dundee actor, who has been told that he is not allowed to return from Australia to his home in Los Angeles until his dispute with the tax office is settled, said that the authorities should "leave him alone".

Brett told The Daily Telegraph: "He's a lovely old man. Leave him alone, gosh almighty. He's done wonderful things for this country... It's a silly business."

Paul's ex-wife Noelene added: "I hope he's okay. As an Aussie, I'm very proud of him," while younger son Todd said that it was "good to have him around".

Hogan's lawyer Andrew Robinson, who is trying to get the case tied up as quickly as possible, said that Hogan was feeling "a mix of angry, scared, bereaved, betrayed and upset".
