Bob Geldof Snr passed away in a Dublin hospital on Thursday morning.
A death notice in Friday's Irish Times called the musician's dad "an exceptional loving man".
The funeral will be held in the city before a burial at Deansgrange Cemetery.
The former Boomtown Rats star recently spoke about his father's friendship with U2 singer Bono.
