The Going The Distance star, who has been in an on-and-off relationship with co-star Justin Long, has insisted that she is not ready to take on roles that portray women with a desperate need to marry a man, reports the London Evening Standard.
The 35-year-old said: "I need rom-coms at the end of a crap day - a nice happy ending and a fairytale. On the other hand I like movies that are very grounded in reality but still maintain their comedy. I'm not at a place in my life where I want to play a character who says, 'I just have to get married!'
"I swear to God, with some of these romantic comedies, these women are being shot in the butt with steroids, and I feel like they'll eat the husband alive on their wedding day. It just terrifies me."
Barrymore recently revealed that she has lost count of the number of men that she has been hurt by during her life.
Going The Distance is currently playing in the UK and arrives in US cinemas on September 3.
