Neil Patrick Harris has revealed that he is doing a lot of reading in order to properly prepare for fatherhood.

The actor told Ryan Seacrest on the E! pre-Emmy telecast that he is trying to research as much about parenting as possible before his first child is born.

"I'm trying to read as much as I can, and prep as much as I can," Harris stated. "But there's only so much you can do because each baby is super individual and totally their own person."

The star added that he and partner David Burtka understand that their baby's birth will change both of their lives forever.

"[I'm] very, very excited… It's the big, crazy calm before the ridiculous storm."

Harris recently won an Emmy Award for 'Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series' for his appearance on Glee.
