Lindsay Lohan has reportedly said that she wants her career back.

The Mean Girls star - who shot to fame as a child actress - told the new issue of Vanity Fair that she wants to regain respect for her acting abilities.

"I want my career back. I want the respect that I had when I was doing great movies. And if that takes not going out to a club at night, then so be it," she said.

"I don't care what anyone says. I know that I'm a damn good actress... And I know that in my past I was young and irresponsible - but that's what growing up is. You learn from your mistakes."

The 24-year-old - who recently served 13 days in jail and 22 days in rehab after violating her probation relating to a 2007 charge - also denied speculation that she has abused prescription drugs in the past and insisted that she is not an alcoholic.

"If I were the alcoholic everyone says I am, then putting a [scram] bracelet on would have ended me up in detox, in the emergency room, because I would have had to come down from all the things that people say I'm taking and my father says I'm taking - so that says something, because I was fine."

Lohan added: "I think everyone has their own addictions and hopefully learns how to get past them. I think my biggest focus for myself is learning how to continue to get through the trauma that my father has caused in my life."

The interview was conducted one week before Lohan surrendered herself to authorities to begin her jail sentence.
