It was confirmed earlier this month that the actor had discovered a lump in his throat and would undergo eight weeks of radiation and chemotherapy treatments after having it removed.
"It makes me furious they didn't detect it earlier," Zeta-Jones told People magazine. "He sought every option and nothing was found."
However, Douglas himself added: "Without having to blame anybody ... these things sometimes just don't show up."
Zeta-Jones confessed that she was not able to stand the thought of seeing her husband of ten years battle the disease.
"I know maybe I should be stronger," she said. "But emotionally I just don't want to see that. The hardest part is seeing his fatigue, because Michael is never tired."
The 65-year-old actor told the magazine that he is confident that he could beat his throat cancer by treating it "as a curable disease". "It's a fight. I'll beat this," he said.
