T.I. and wife 'arrested on drug charges'

T.I. and his wife Tameka Cottle have been arrested in Los Angeles on charges of possessing a controlled substance.

Police at a West Hollywood traffic stop picked up the couple on Wednesday night when deputies reportedly smelled a strong aroma coming from the rapper's car.

"Deputies smelled a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle," LA sheriff deputy Mark Pope told Access Hollywood.

The deputy noted that "a narcotics investigation ensued" and resulted in the arrest of the 'Whatever You Like' musician and Cottle on narcotics charges.

Pope added that he was unsure which specific drug the charge concerned or if the pair were still being held by authorities.

T.I. is currently on probation stemming from a federal weapons charge that saw him spend seven months in an Arkansas prison.

A publicist for the star declined to comment on the issue.
