Pot helps singer recover from cancer

Rock star Melissa Etheridge has revealed that she used marijuana to help her through extensive chemotherapy.

The now cancer-free star doubts that she would have made it through the treatment without the pain-relieving effects of the herb. She started smoking the drug on the advice of doctors, but took to inhaling it after smoking made her nauseous.

"I bought a vaporiser to heat up the herb, which I'd inhale four or five times a day. Using the pot was the best advice anybody gave me. It relieved most of my symptoms and I got a great deal of comfort from it."

The star is now urging US politicians to relax their tough stance on the use of the drug for medicinal purposes: "I'm furious that our country is denying the use of pot as pain relief. It should be legalised for medicinal purposes. I wonder if I'd have got through chemotherapy without it."
