Kay: 'Text scandal was devastating'

Vernon Kay has admitted that the consequences of his sex-text scandal were "devastating".

Speaking to the News of the World, the presenter confessed that it was difficult to cope with his private life being put under scrutiny, but added that wife Tess Daly has now dealt with the situation.

"It was devastating. Prior to the texting thing we were - and still are - really private people. So when it all happened it was the first time that our personal lives were on the front pages. That was a real shock. But Tess and I dealt with it behind closed doors and we've managed to move on."

Referring to the fact that the scandal broke as Daly was promoting her pregnancy book, he said: "It wasn't the best timing. But I always knew we'd get through it. It wasn't going to destroy us. We did everything the right way so we'd be able to carry on.

"We spoke to each other a lot. And it was really good. I'm not the kind of person who washes his laundry in public and it's no one else's business, to be honest. It was a very private situation, we've dealt with it and I'm proud of the fact we've done that."

"I now know not to take anything for granted. I think Tess does trust me, because if she didn't then what we've talked about and what we did wouldn't have worked. Tess is brilliant. She hasn't surprised me at all because I always knew she was strong.

"I mean, she was there to support me at last month's triathlon and if things weren't as good as they are then, without a shadow of a doubt, she wouldn't have been there. There was a moment during the triathlon where I was just shattered, I had nothing left to give.

"Then I saw Tess. And she just made all the pain go away. Phoebe was there with her pom-poms and High School Musical cheerleading outfit and so were my mum and dad, and it just made me think, 'Wow. How amazing'."
