Spencer Pratt 'arrested on firearms charge'

The Hills star Spencer Pratt has reportedly been arrested in Costa Rica for possessing an illegal firearm.

The reality TV regular claimed that he had been detained on his way out of the country, put away in a local jail and was only released after handing over the offending weapons and signing a confession in front of a district attorney.

TMZ also detailed a statement that they received from Pratt explaining his reasons for visiting the country and his account of the events.

"As part of my spiritual cleansing I've spent the last week living alone in the jungle, reflecting on my past transgressions, and working to become a better person," he told the website.

"I had to live off the land, and hunt to survive. As I departed the country this morning to continue my spiritual journey, I mistakenly brought my hunting weapons to the airport. It was an honest mistake, and they sent me on my way.

"On an unrelated note, I'm not allowed in the country anymore - but that's because of [an unknown] chicken incident," Pratt joked.
