Stephen Gately's family 'row over ashes'

The family of Stephen Gately have reportedly disagreed with his husband Andrew Cowles over where to spread his ashes.

According to the Sunday Mirror, Cowles will not attend today's scattering ceremony in Ireland because he wanted the late star's ashes in London where the pair lived together.

A family source said: "This falling out is the last thing Steo would have wanted. As things stand, Andy isn't attending the scattering of the ashes. It's a great shame, but just one of those things.

"Steo's mum and dad feel in their hearts they are doing the right thing by scattering his ashes in Dalkey. But Andy won't be making the trip over. There's just too much tension and ill-feeling around this.

"The family have invited him to attend. But they know Steo wouldn't have wanted all this falling out and fussing. It's a great shame."

A spokesman for Gately’s family said: "Andrew has received at least half a dozen invitations to the ceremony. He hasn't responded to any of them."

Gately died a year ago while on holiday in Majorca.
