Bette Midler to produce 'Priscilla' musical

Bette Midler has signed to produce a stage version of the film The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

The original 1994 movie stars Hugo Weaving, Guy Pierce and Terence Stamp as a trio of drag queens travelling through Australia in a bus.

"We are thrilled that she wants to join us on the bus for this magnificent adventure," said fellow producer James L. Nederlander.

The musical is now playing in Toronto after premiering in 2006 in Australia.

Stephan Elliott, the director of the film, co-wrote the show with Allan Scott. Simon Phillips is helming the musical.
